Walking Safari
Step Into the Wild: Guided Walking Safari Adventure
Experience the thrill of walking through Tanzania’s untamed wilderness with nothing but your senses and expert guides to lead the way. Unlike vehicle safaris, a walking safari brings you eye-level with nature where every footprint tells a story and every rustle in the bush stirs your curiosity. Guided by professional rangers and local trackers, you’ll explore the hidden details of the savannah, from animal tracks and medicinal plants to birdsong and insects.

Where are walking safaris offered?
Walking safaris in Tanzania are offered in select parks and reserves known for their rich biodiversity and open landscapes. Ruaha National Park is a top choice, offering remote, rugged terrain and fewer crowds—perfect for adventurous travelers seeking an authentic wilderness experience. Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve) is another prime destination, famous for its river systems, open plains, and diverse wildlife, making it ideal for both walking and boat safaris. In Tarangire National Park, guests can enjoy guided walks among ancient baobab trees and large elephant herds.
Some private concessions within the Serengeti ecosystem also offer exclusive walking experiences, often paired with fly camps for overnight treks. Each of these locations provides a unique setting, allowing you to explore Tanzania’s wild beauty safely and intimately on foot.
Best Time to Go
The ideal time for a walking safari in Tanzania is during the dry season (June to October). Wildlife is easier to spot as animals gather near water sources and vegetation is thinner. Cooler mornings and clear skies also make for comfortable and safe walking conditions.

Ready to Walk Tanzania’s Wild Trails?
If you’re seeking a safari experience that’s raw, authentic, and deeply immersive, a walking safari is the perfect choice. Guided by experts, you’ll explore Tanzania’s breathtaking landscapes step by step, encountering wildlife in its natural habitat and gaining a deeper understanding of the bush. Lace up your boots—Tanzania’s wild trails are waiting.
Is a walking safari safe?
Yes. All walking safaris are led by experienced, armed rangers and professional guides. You’ll be thoroughly briefed on safety procedures before the walk begins.

Why Choose a Walking Safari?
A walking safari offers a deeper, more intimate connection with nature than a typical game drive. On foot, you’ll notice the small details—animal tracks, bird calls, the scent of wild herbs and feel truly immersed in the wilderness. It’s a peaceful, thrilling experience that combines adventure, education, and a fresh perspective of Tanzania’s untamed beauty.
