Jour par jour

  1. Day 1

    Nale Muru Gate to Simba Camp

    Start on the mountain's northern side, walking through forest and farmland from 1,997m to 2,635m.

  2. Day 2

    Simba Camp to Second Cave

    Climb through open moorland with widening views into Kenya, camping at 3,487m.

  3. Day 3

    Second Cave to Third Cave

    Continue through the semi-desert zone towards Kibo, camping at 3,936m.

  4. Day 4

    Third Cave to Kibo Huts

    Cross alpine desert to the base of the summit cone at 4,714m and rest early.

  5. Day 5

    Summit and descend

    A midnight push to Uhuru Peak at 5,895m, then descend the Marangu side to Horombo Huts.

  6. Day 6

    Marangu Gate

    Walk out through moorland and forest to the gate and transfer back to Moshi.
